Apartment SR
Set in the heart of Turin’s historic center, BRH+ designs a residential project that completely rethinks spatial distribution and offers a fresh, functional take on the typology of the small apartment. The studio’s intervention focuses on a modestly sized one-bedroom flat, transformed through a meticulously crafted design that caters to everyday needs, all brought to life with pastel hues and translucent surfaces.
At the core of this transformation lies a geometric and spatial intuition that rationalizes usable space while maximizing the flow of natural light. Here, color is not mere decoration—it becomes a perceptual amplifier, a guiding principle in spatial choreography that evokes a sense of airiness and order, calm and intimacy. These foundational principles inform the entire project, expressed through a consistent yet never monotonous design language. Every detail is deliberate, unified by the overarching idea of “made-to-measure” design.
The layout is defined by a multifunctional linear element that runs through the apartment’s two main rooms, visually connecting them while framing the kitchen and bathroom areas. This architectural feature also integrates functions such as separation, storage, and vertical circulation. Acting as a membrane—partially transparent and partially opaque—it flexibly opens and closes as needed, revealing or concealing the kitchen and enabling the space to be reconfigured with ease and lightness.
The kitchen stands as a focal point of the project: a blend of matte and glossy surfaces, natural materials, and curated color palettes form a space that’s both highly functional and rich in decorative flair. A botanical wallpaper acts as a visual accent, in dialogue with the green ceramic tiling.
Custom-designed and entirely made-to-measure, the peninsula kitchen benefits from generous natural light streaming through a small bay window, which also houses a compact, almost hidden workspace overlooking the inner courtyard.
A staircase—crafted with the same bespoke precision—leads to the upper level, incorporating at the same time discreet storage compartments. The sleeping area is quiet and cocooned, maintaining visual continuity with the lower floor through a palette of matching colors and materials. Here, parquet gives way to a golden-hued carpet, and the botanical theme is revisited with a wallpaper of a different pattern, completing this serene, finely detailed urban retreat.
