MMOOS.

MOSTRO is a limited edition collection of furniture and accessories made of Rosa Peralba marble and Travertino, designed by BRH+ for MMOOS.

The Latin monstrum is a prodigy, an unusual and unnatural – or rather supernatural event. It is therefore, not only a sign but also a non-ordinary divinatory object, a special hybrid – an entity which is perceived as an aberration, as a real anomaly; it is the interruption in the pattern of conformity, the fracture in the homogeneity crossed by the light of the future. The monster is only the reverse of its homologous and identical replica, a different order compared to the more ordinary one; the possibility and the desire proposed by deformed, discostant and contrasting items.

When taken in its etymological sense, the “monster” is an invitation to welcome and integrate the peculiar uniqueness of the natural matter not as an impedance, but rather as an enhancing factor. The travertine surfaces are then left bare, unstucco-ed, and cut parallel to their metamorphic vein, revealing their structuring porous pattern, strongly contrasting – both visually and tactually – with the surfaces of Rosa Peralba marble, all-round carved from the solid blocks and then polished by hand.

The search for previously quarried and still unused material, conducted through the surveying of stone blocks from sites closed decades ago, guides a responsible idea of the design approach, which on the one hand attempts to limit extraction practices to preserve non-renewable natural resources, on the other hand revealing long-hidden typologies. In the case of Rosa Peralba marble, all the blocks used for the MOSTRO collection derive from materials extracted from an old quarry, unused since the 1990s and located in the heart of the Dolomite arc, near Brunico.

The lighting fixtures used in some of the pieces in the collection have been tailored and custom-produced using first-rate components and materials to meet the highest performance and safety standards. The engineering process was conducted through a direct and coordinated collaboration between BRH+ and ILTI LUCE, a prestigious Italian company on the international lighting scene, which is entrusted with the production of the components. Always committed to research, innovation and the promotion of design culture, ILTI LUCE has experimentation and attention to detail and form among its core values.

MOSTRO is the millenary sedimentation revealing itself in an altered form, artfully crafted to be transformed into a partially variable geometrical module, into a movable graft, into a fragment of architecture able to unexpectedly combine old with new and able to translate into the time being some poetic traits of Italian Neoliberty.
