Carlo Pignatelli
History of a Dream
The design of the exhibition created as a tribute to 50 years of creativity of Carlo Pignatelli is based on several precise guiding principles.
The suggested atmosphere – in continuity with the imaginary and the taste the maison has developed over the years – is refined and intimate; the path of the visitor in the space, organized in an area of about 600 square meters, offers the audience a special vantage point on a series of archival photographic images and an illustrative selection of garments, in a visual continuum that serves to narrate the history of a sartorial idea transformed into a stylistic signature.
The photographic materials – selected by CAMERA, the Italian Center for Photography – reproduced in different formats to create a meaningful and surprising rhythm of viewing, are joined by several “spatial episodes” set aside for video projections.
The itinerary is subdivided into distinct areas crossed by following a sequence of textile dividers with constantly varied consistencies and mirror surfaces; the use of fabric to generate the architectural arrangement of partitions in the installation is particularly apt in relation to the protagonist of the narration, while also transmitting a sense of lightness that enhances all the visual materials on display. The textile curtains, organized in keeping with soft geometric forms, alternate opaque and transparent linear features, interspersed with reflecting fields of great theatrical impact. The overall hues of the installation are dark, forcefully black, with the aim of forming a very evocative, enveloping and characteristic immersive environment.
Along the entire visit itinerary expographic texts are organized, designed in terms of graphics and lettering, sensibility and taste to coordinate the exhibition spaces with the stylistic lines embodied by the fashion creations of Carlo Pignatelli.
