Gentileschi and Van Dyck.
Two masterpieces from the Corsini collection
As part of the exhibition L’Ospite Illustre (“The Illustrious Guest”), Gallerie d’Italia is displaying two prestigious works by Orazio Gentileschi and Antoon van Dyck, both originally housed in the Corsini Gallery in Rome. Gentileschi’s Madonna and Child and van Dyck’s Madonna of the Straw, have been placed side by side since the 18th century in the ‘Galleria nobile’ of Palazzo Corsini alla Lungara in Rome.
The installation designed by BRH+ presents the two works in dialogue by means self-standing structures recalling Renaissance votive chapels in their essential outlines. The structures contextualise the two works and at the same time discreetly inhabit the noble rooms of Palazzo Turinetti in Turin.
The structures are disassemblable and designed according to a criteria of sustainability, so that they can be reused in future installations.
